Welcome to Darwin’s Fynch!
I’m Bruno McBain, and Darwin’s Fynch is my journey to explore the artistic side of myself I discovered a few years back.
This site is dedicated to sharing that art as well as sharing my journey in learning and creating it.
I hope you enjoy!
But what IS Darwin’s Fynch?
Okay, okay.
Darwin’s Fynch is an animated series about a family, the Fynches, who suffer from intrusive thoughts in the form of an overabundance of imagination.
The name of the series is a play on Darwin’s Finches, the famous birds Charles Darwin observed in the Galapagos Islands, which were instrumental in his developing understanding of natural selection.
Being a fan of the sciences, I couldn’t resist naming a character Darwin Fynch, once the idea hit me. There are lots of scientist’s names Easter-egged into the names of the characters.
Darwin, the titular character, and his family, friends, and the rest of the people in his world are loosely based on me and my family, friends, and the various people in my world.
Why? Because I have this need to tell stories, and love to laugh and make others laugh.
Why animation, though? Because it’s a challenge, it pushes me to learn new things, to explore various arts and learn a variety of skills.
So what’s with all the other stuff on the site, if this is all about an animated show?
As I start this journey I’m pretty much a one-man show, doing everything from the drawing, storyboards, writing, music, voices, sound effects, animation, and editing. I hope to recruit others to the cause as I go, but for now I’m in the process of learning to do all the things I need to do to make the show go.
Unfortunately, I get distracted easily, since I find so much of life endlessly fascinating.
That’s why this site is here, to create an environment that helps motivate me to focus. A refrigerator where I can put up my art as I progress and talk about it a bit, share what I’ve learned. Something to generate some personal excitement to help me focus and reduce my anxiety about putting myself and my work out there.
So once again, welcome!
I hope you enjoy poking through what I post here as I learn and grow!
